This was one of the first times I saw Alina dance. It was in mid dress rehearsal for #russianiconsgala #londoncoliseum and everyone was a little fraught. Alina walked onto stage with a shy smile and the tense atmosphere immediately melted into laughter and camaraderie. I wish we all had that effect! I wanted to capture her gentle empathy and passion for dance. Delighted to have my art featured on the official Derwent Pencil Blog www.lovepencils.co.uk/2017/01/06/step-by-step-the-little-ballerina-by-zoe-james-williams/ using their inktense range of colours. I used the vibrant and beautiful colours on one of my ballerina sketches which really brought it to life.
For collectors of my art my ballet paintings are now being exhibited at The Albany Gallery Christmas Exhibition until Dec 31st. Its a great show and well worth a look. http://www.albanygallery.com/.

I taught a great class inspired by Georgia O Keefe. Such was her love of nature and flowers that she tended to focus in on them and fill up the whole paper. Using watercolour all the classes were given my photo (below right) that I took of a bowl of fruit and also shown O'Keefe's paintings including the one below left. Then taking two L Shaped pieces of paper selected a segment of the photo that they wanted to paint. I used this exercise to look at composition and watercolour techniques. I also advised to add little bit of linear ink on the plate which adds a good contrast! You can see the wide variety of paintings that were produced. They all look very sumptuous!
